I have flung to the east and west

Priceless treasure torn from my breast

And yielded the sons of my stricken womb

        Sarojini Naidu was born in Hyderabad on 13th of February 1879. From the years of her very early age she was having a sign of "Exceptional Talent" 

        She began writing poems from her schooling. At the age of 12 she passed her matriculation, examination in the first division from the University of Madras. 

        In 1895 she went to Kings College in London and Girton Cambridge for her higher studies. Even after going out so far for her education Sarojini returned home without any Degree. However, her study of English literature and her contact with men of the literary world was a great value to her.

        In the year 1895 she got married to Dr.Naidu of A.P, and in 1902 she met Sri Gokhale Krishna with whose help and inspiration she found her way into politics. Civil Disobedience movement and the movement against the Salt Laws of the British Government are the activities of hers, she was sent to jail many times. She also took active part in the Satyagraha movement and the Quit India movement.

        In 1947, when finally India got Independence Sarojini Naidu was made the Governor of Uttar Pradesh as a reward for all the work she had done and all her active participation in all the political movements of Congress. In March 1949, Sarojini Naidu passed away. 

        Sarojini Naidu has left a great name for herself in the history of India and was called "THE NIGHTINGALE OF INDIA"
